Getting ready for digital

By 31st January 2027, the UK will replace the existing analogue telephone network with a new digital system.

Keeping people safe through the digital switchover

Across the UK, the traditional analogue telephone network is being replaced with a new, modern digital system. This change will happen gradually, and by the end of January 2027, all landline services will run over digital technology instead of analogue lines.

For anyone who uses Technology Enabled Care (TEC) - such as fall detectors - it's important to make sure equipment continues to work safely on the new network. The new network brings many opportunities to transform the health and social care landscape, such as enhanced monitoring capability and increased compatibility for new TEC innovation.

We’re helping Local Authorities realise these benefits, together.

We’re delivering the outcomes set out in the Telecare National Action Plan, safeguarding telecare users

1

Devices shouldn’t be switched until another solution is in place

We’re not just switching like-for-like; we’re finding better equipment, to help people to live more independently at home and reducing the cost of care.

2

Analogue devices are phased out and replaced with digital

We're installing digital devices, meaning they won’t need to be switched out at a later date.

3

Users, their support networks and service providers know what to do

We work collaboratively with network providers and manufacturers to provide strategic support that achieves a smooth and successful network transition.

4

Stakeholders collaborate to safeguard service users through the switchover

We’ll ensure the safety of our service users during the transition to digital telephone networks, listening to and involving them every step of the way.
